2020 company update

Back to insights

By Capital Partners Capital Partners News

In what has been a very challenging year we have continued to grow and stay positive. Our last client event held face-to-face was in February when we held a cybersecurity update. It seems like a lifetime since then and we are hoping to hold some great client events in 2021.

If it had to happen, the Covid-19 intervention came at a convenient time for Capital Partners as we had spent the previous twelve months upgrading our technology and security. When the lockdown came, we transitioned to work from home seamlessly. Much has been written about the work from home phenomenon, and it has certainly taught us that work can be flexible and productive wherever it happens.

We have enjoyed stability in our senior team, and many team members have taken on new challenges. We were delighted when Emma Zwaan was awarded the Financial Planning Association’s Paraplanner of the Year award. This is high praise from her peers and is a sign of things to come in her professional career. In the IFA Excellence awards, Genevieve Lawton received the Marketing Consultant of the Year – the highest award for a marketing professional, another fabulous achievement.

Team update

During the year we celebrated some significant milestones with Hannah McKelvieSteven Boyce, Anna Cunningham, Genevieve Lawton and Rob McCaw all achieving their five-Year milestone. We were also delighted to celebrate James McLeod reaching 10-Years of service, while Natalie Rosewell achieved 20-Years. We now have 57% of our team members with over five years of service.

We have also taken the opportunity to recruit some great new talent. It’s been an interesting time to be recruiting, as many companies have chosen a more defensive stance. However, we remain very positive about the future, and our financial backing enables us to make these forward-looking commitments.

  • Tyler Ellery, Nick MenegolaAden Wilkins and Robbie Harrison have joined as Associates and will be completing their studies and their professional year with us, before moving into adviser roles.
  • Luke Sheather has joined us as an Investment Specialist. Luke is a chartered accountant and chartered financial analyst, and his role is to support advisers and the investment committee in a specialist capacity.
  • Tanesha Brayne has joined us as Marketing Assistant, coordinating our communications and website.

During the year David Rossbach and his partner, Rachael welcomed baby Ava, while Callum McPherson and his partner, Rachel, became engaged.

Sustainable investing

Early in the year, we launched our suite of Sustainable Portfolios which have a strong focus on reducing emissions, environmental and social considerations. We were interested in receiving feedback from clients in our Investor Feedback survey that 45% of respondents had either some interest or a strong interest in exploring sustainable investing.

There are many differing views on social and environmental matters, and our goal is to ensure options are available for those who wish to invest sustainably. These investments are now available, and we invite you to raise the subject with your adviser.

Happy New Year

We would like to thank you for your support over the year and look forward to welcoming you back in 2021. On behalf of the Capital Partners team, we wish you a safe and happy New Year and festive season.
